Coed Tregib

During the summer of 2004, the Woodland Trust (Coed Cadw) has been running a successful campaign to acquire a 12 ha (32 acre) extension to Coed Tregib, near Llandeilo, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. By extending the existing Woodland Trust site we will be able to bring the wood closer to the town of Llandeilo and provide easy footpath access to the wood from the town. There should also be significant gains for wildlife; as well as extending the wood, we will be bringing it closer to the river Tywi, thus providing an attractive habitat for otters. The campaign has been run by the Woodland Trust in partnership with the local newspaper, the Carmarthen Journal.

The Trust will organised planting events at the site during the autumn of 2004, some open to the public, and others specifically for local schools. The aim will be to create a new woodland by planting 9000 native trees, mostly alder, willow, oak, ash and assorted shrubs.

The Coed Tregib Extension is at grid reference SN 641 217 on OS Landranger map 159
