Science

Ancient woodland is the UK's richest wildlife habitat. But this important natural treasure is under threat. Most ancient woods are small and scattered islands in a sea of heavy land use. Their isolation, and rapid climate change, are major threats to wildlife living there, since it makes it so much harder to move from one habitat to another in order to survive.

Giving wildlife a chance

To give woods and wildlife a fighting chance, the Woodland Trust believes that land must be used less intensively and new habitats created. To find out more about the problems and strategies for overcoming them, visit Expanding our horizons and Space for nature.

Woods for people

We are all part of the natural world and rely on it but ironically, when our environment needs us most, we are strangers to nature as never before. In Space for People the first major green space access survey, at a UK level the Woodland Trust outlines targets for bringing people and woodland closer together.
