Ivy Road Primary School

On 30th November 2005 a group of children from Ivy Road Primary School in Forest Hall took part in planting a hedge pack from the Woodland Trust.

The children picked a hedge plant and then chose a suitable place to plant it; they also applied mulch around the base of each of the plants. This work was part of the children’s plans to help develop a piece of land in the school grounds. The group of children meet every week with a member of Staff from the Rising Sun Country Park for an afternoon of gardening and working outdoors.

The area that the children work in is designed and developed by them, reflecting their ideas. Some of the activities that the children have enjoyed taking part in so far have been, preparation of the soil – digging and spreading compost on the planting beds; cleaning out an old pond; planting acorns and garlic; and starting to make a tree house.
