Oxenhope C. E. School

Oxenhope C of E Primary School

It was as wet as you could possibly get in Oxenhope C.E. Primary School’s environmental area on Monday 22nd November but due to my not-to-be-questioned decree ‘we will plant whatever the weather’ 21 Year 6 pupils did not dare complain and as such, 30 hazel trees were successfully planted creating a new coppice.

The environmental area has been somewhat neglected over the years but the donation of the trees should help raise the pupils’ awareness of the area. Other classes will be able to study the coppice for minibeasts as it grows and for Year 6, it will provide a location in which to investigate food chains and plant-animal interdependence in a familiar habitat.

Keighley News took photos and so hopefully it will be in this week’s edition. Thank you for the trees, the class proudly wore their ‘Tree for All’ stickers all day as their sopping trousers hung to dry across the classroom.
