Whitecraig Primary School
We planted our hedgerow pack on 18th and 19th of November 2004 on cold and frosty days. Our enthusiasm was not curtailed by the weather and we enjoyed planting the varieties of trees and hedgerow plants. All 5 classes were involved with P6/7 children doing the heavy digging.
We went out armed with our forks, spades and trowels along with a metre stick for measuring distances between plantings. The younger children also enjoyed finding worms and caterpillars in the soil when digging with their trowels.
We planted our hedge beside the fence which ajoins the cornfield beside the school playing fields. These will be sheltered from the strong, prevailing wind which comes from the north and hopefully will give us some protection in future years as well as a good site for the study of living things in our curriculum topics.
Photographs were taken which we will use in our "Woodland Diary ". This will track the growth of the plants.
Thank you for sending us such a useful resource for our studies.
