Celebrity supporters

Eamonn Holmes, Jimmy Cricket, Dermot Murnaghan, Barry McGuigan and Angie Phillips. These are just some of the celebrities who have given a huge boost to our efforts in Northern Ireland.

Eamonn Holmes

Belfast-born Eamonn Holmes, shocked by Northern Ireland’s lack of native woodland cover, wanted to take some positive action. Eamonn marked his son’s first milestone with the planting of a native tree at Monkstown Wood, Newtownabbey. Press release

The GMTV presenter also lent his support by providing the voice over for the Woodland Trust’s Community Service Announcement. The short film was sponsored by and broadcast on Ulster Television and marked the launch of the Woodland Trust’s Tree For All campaign in Northern Ireland. Eamonn says: “ We’re losing touch with nature. If our children feel close to nature they’ll want to protect it. The Woodland Trust wants every child to have the chance to plant trees. Help shape our children’s future. Be part of the Trust’s Tree for All campaign.”

Jimmy Cricket

Who better to give it some welly than Cookstown-born comedian Jimmy Cricket? Jimmy put his best welly boot forward at Friends of Belvoir Wood, Belfast to help make learning about nature fun for children from Belvoir Park Primary School. Press release

And there’s more! Jimmy has written a song for the Woodland Trust, ‘There’s only One Tree.’
“It’s a peep into the future,” says Jimmy. “If we keep building and building there could possibly be a time when there will only be one tree left on the planet and people will be queuing up to see it like they do with the Mona Lisa.”

Angie Phillips

Angie Phillips’ support will definitely add a touch of sunshine to the Tree For All campaign. The BBC weather presenter says: “Trees not only make the environment look appealing, they have hidden benefits as well. They take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and put oxygen back in - very important if we're to slow climate change. They also hold vast amounts of water and can help flooding. Their vast root systems can help prevent soil erosion and even land-slides.”
