Edinburgh-born celebrity Gail Porter is supporting a new children’s tree-planting campaign that’s set to spark a whole new conservation movement. The Woodland Trust Scotland, part of the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, is launching Tree For All, the biggest ever children’s tree planting campaign. Tree For All will inspire children to become the next generation of eco-warriors to help restore the environment by planting trees in their own communities across Scotland.
TV presenter and actress Gail Porter says: “Every child should have the chance to hear birds sing. Every child should have the chance to feel the breeze blowing through the trees. Tree for All can make that happen.”
The campaign’s vision is that every child should have the chance to plant trees. Two million trees– that’s two for every child under the age of 16 - will be planted across Scotland over the next five years as part of the campaign. Tree For All aims to inspire in children a love of nature and a determination to act on its behalf. Tree For All is a call to action to reverse the trend of a generation which is disengaged from the natural world.
The Woodland Trust Scotland wants every child to have the chance to plant trees. Andrew Fairbairn explains: “Tree For All will give children the chance to get to grips with nature. We want to make tree planting part and parcel of growing up and we want to inspire children with a love of nature and a determination to act on its behalf. We’re offering a unique opportunity for everyone to get involved.”
Over the next five years Tree For All will provide many simple, enjoyable and practical ways for everyone - families, schools and children - to get involved. The Trust’s first Tree for All week kicks off on 18th November when schools in Fife, West Lothian and Perth and Kinross will begin the tree planting. Everyone else can make a huge difference too by planting a tree at school, in your own back garden, or even online.
Gail says: “Tree for All can help children to care about their world, their future. Help them to care. Help them to plant a tree.”
