Pressmennan Wood Management Plan Under Review

The Woodland Trust Scotland is reviewing and producing a new management plan for Pressmennan Wood, near Stenton in East Lothian. Pressmennan Wood sits on the northern slopes of Deuchrie Dod. The Trust, part of the UK's leading woodland conservation charity, acquired the wood from the Forestry Commission in 1988. Since then the Trust has been working to increase its value to wildlife, the public and the local landscape, and to safeguard this important ancient woodland for the future.

The plan will describe our long-term vision for Pressmennan Wood and management operations for the next 5-20 years. It will contribute to the fulfilment of the Trust’s objectives of protecting ancient woodland, enhancing native woodland biodiversity (variety of life) and increasing people’s enjoyment of woodland.

All of the Woodland Trust's woods have Forest Stewardship Council certification, which means that we are accredited with an international seal of approval for the quality of our woodland management. The Trust was the first major landowner to earn UK wide certification for all its woods. A management plan, to be reviewed every five years, will assure that the same high standards of management continue.

The Woodland Trust Scotland would very much like to hear the opinions of local people so that they can be taken into account before producing the final version of the management plan.

A reference copy of the full draft plan is available to view in Haddington Library, Newton Port, Haddington. The plan can also be downloaded from the website http://www.wt-woods.org.uk/pressmennan or a summary requested from our office at Perth.

However, if you require a full printed version of the plan please contact the Perth office on 01738 635829 - an administrative fee will be charged. If you have any comments they can be sent in writing or directed to the Trust's local Woodland Officer, James Gilmour on 01620 826782. The deadline for comments is 23 November 2007.
