Geordies Wood

Geordie's Wood was purchased by the Trust in January 2004. The 246 hectares of bare grassland will be transformed to a new native woodland. We plan to plant over 200,000 trees at Geordie's Wood, thousands of which will be planted by school children, youth groups and the local community.

On the 24th - 28th April 2006, we held a series of tree planting events for 14 local primary schools in Clackmannanshire and Perth and Kinross. Over 300 school children received a unique learning experience about the importance of trees to our environment and the need to continue to plant more and more native species. Facilitated by Fife-based, Craigencalt Ecology Centre, the children took part in woodland learning games and even created their own art from tree parts. In all they managed to plant over 2,000 trees.

Some of future plans for Geordie's Wood include large-scale planting events with the Scouts in Spring 2007, a Woodland Festival held in Autumn 2007 with members of the local community and a wildflower sowing project at the site.

Keep your eyes peeled for events taking place at Geordie's Wood over the next few months.
