Trees and forests are crucial to life on our planet. Nowhere is this more apparent than for people living in the African drylands. The massive loss of trees exposes topsoil to the ravages of strong winds, blistering sun and brief but violent rains making it difficult to grow foods. A lack of trees will result in a shortage of foods such as berries, fruits and nuts, leaving millions of people vulnerable to the threat of famine.
The list of how trees meet basic needs is almost endless and the sale of tree products provides cash so families can buy food and other essential items and receive education and healthcare. Tree planting in Africa will alleviate environmental damage and give hope to some of the most threatened people on earth.
The Woodland Trust has forged a partnership with Tree Aid with a vision to plant 30,000 trees planted both in the UK and in the drylands of Sahel in Africa. It will also give children at 1,000 UK schools the chance to learn about trees here and all over the world.
We are aiming to raise £100,000 from the corporate sector to make this vital project a reality. To find out more about the benefits to your company, call the Corporate Partnerships Team on 01476 581112 or email corporatepartnerships@woodland-trust.org.uk
