Sinai desert trip

A sponsored tree-planting event held at Willington, County Durham, will help send students on a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to the Sinai desert.

This summer, 24 students from the Framwellgate School, are going on a two-week excursion to support scientists researching the area’s threatened flora and fauna.

During the expedition, the students will live with the local tribe of Bedouins, work from dawn until dusk and sleep under the stars. In the second week, they will cool down by scuba diving in the Red Sea off the Egyptian coast, while also carrying out more conservation work.

However, to make the journey a reality, the pupils have to raise £40,000. Thanks to the assistance of schools all over the county, they have reached £30,000 already. The very successful sponsored tree-planting event at Willington, at which participants planted over 1,000 trees, will help contribute towards the outstanding balance.
