With alpine glaciers already starting to melt because of climate change, the Ski Club of Great Britain is only too aware of the need to take action for the environment. Members are concerned that their grandchildren will not be able to experience the exhilaration of skiing down a snow-covered mountain, enjoying the spectacular scenery that surrounds.
So the Ski Club found a green partner who shares their concern about the natural world and has the expertise to do something about it. It has teamed up with the Woodland Trust to boost the UK’s biggest ever children’s tree planting campaign, Tree For All.
By increasing subscriptions by 50p, the Club has managed to raise over £4,250 to pay for the planting of 400 trees. They are also now selling ‘Respect the Mountain’ wristbands to bring in even more for Tree For All.
“Skiers have are bound to have a special appreciation of the wild world.” said Ioan Reed-Apsley of the Woodland Trust, “They see nature at its most spectacular. And the Ski Club of Great Britain shares our concern about climate change so it seems really appropriate that they should want to support Tree For All. We’re really glad they did.”
