Youth Conference to discovers its environmental ‘foot print’ and plants trees at Coed Tregib
The Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) is holding their popular residential Youth Conference in the Brecon Beacons National Park this week. The four-day event, based at the Danywenallt National Park Study Centre will explore potential environmental changes facing the National Park and the impact of our daily activities on the area. The delegates will be made aware of their environmental ‘foot print’ and will take part in a tree planting exercise in the Woodland Trust site at Coed Tregib.
Rory Francis, Coed Cadw’s Public Affairs Officer says: “We’re delighted that CPRW have incorporated tree planting into the conference programme. If the aim is to help to put something back into the very special environment of the National Park, there can be few better ways of doing this than planting native trees. The delegates will be helping to create a valuable new habitat for wildlife, they’ll be helping the Woodland Trust to create a new area of publicly available green space within walking distance of Llandeilo, and the trees they plant will also make some contribution towards off-setting the carbon dioxide emissions of the conference itself. “
The conference is supported by the BBNP Sustainable Development Fund and the Countryside Council for Wales. During the conference, delegates will work with National Park Rangers, Coed Cadw/The Woodland Trust, the John Muir Trust, the Llanwrtyd Youth Forum and Keep Wales Tidy. The group will take part in a series of outdoor environmental tasks and will visit local projects to look at alternative energy production, sustainable building practices, waste reduction and the promotion of local food. The students will present their findings and their vision for the future of the National Park at the Guild Hall in Brecon on Friday 17th March.
Photographers and press reporters will be welcome at the tree planting event on the 16th March, 2pm at Coed Tregib or the presentation at the Guild Hall, Brecon on Friday 17th March at 10.30pm – 12.30pm.
