Conservation project transforming Theydon Bois
A 94-acre farmland site at Theydon Bois is being transformed back into woodland. This important conservation project is being carried out by the Woodland Trust in association with many local partners.
Over the next two years 50,000 trees will be planted at the site which lies next to a small woodland known as Long Shaw. Shaws are traditional features of the Weald of Sussex and Kent and date from at least the late Middle Ages. Long Shaw contains ancient oak and Hornbeam pollards, which indicate that it once was an area of wood pasture. Among other things the Trust aims to expand woodland cover in the area and extend the existing wildlife habitat.
Offering magnificent views of central London, the site is close to Theydon Bois tube station which means it can be accessed easily by millions of Londoners.
A number of organisations have greatly supported the project to reforest the site including the following, to find out more
