but not for long
Welcome to the Woodland Trust's Forest of Flowers project in Hull - a pilot for creating substantial natural green spaces in cities. And just look at the difference. Uninspiring patches of grass bloom with flowers only a year after setting and within 20 years the trees will have become established too.
It's an exciting project for the Trust, as it's a bold step to get right into the heart of cities and work with communities to make such a dramatic impact. Hull City Council has offered numerous sites as ripe for transformation, including the 13 hectare Stonebridge Playing Field.
Trees and woodland are good for us, yet Hull is the least wooded city in the UK and lacks natural green spaces. Woodland improves our air quality, makes the place look better and is a perfect spot to chill out. It creates homes for wildlife too.
We'd be really chuffed if you gave us a helping hand! For details of community planting days, which anyone can attend, visit EVENTS.
There's also an interactive map which shows sites we're planting at. Why not take a look.
