Success of the project

Through the dedication of staff, advisors and partners, plus financial support from individuals and organisations, we successfully delivered:

  • the centre piece of the project: Victory Wood. A 328 acre (133ha) site in Kent, not far from Chatham, where HMS Victory was built and overlooking the sea. More information on Victory Wood here;

  • 26 other Trafalgar Woods named after the ships of the line, plus, in response to demand, a further 6 woods named after the support vessels in Nelson's fleet. The 33 woods will provide more than 858 acres (347ha) of new native woodland and act as a permanent reminder of the events of 1805. More information here;

  • 353,000 trees planted at 33 woods and beyond these, a further 93,000 trees planted by other people with our support. In total, we therefore planted 446,000 new native trees all over the UK, both in the countryside and in cities and towns;

  • an inspirational education programme which reached every school across the UK and included a range of resources and supporting materials;

  • more than 15,000 trees planted by 6,000 children at the 33 woods. In addition, to make the project more inclusive, we also decided to take our trees to children. Our Trafalgar tree packs enabled a further 75,000 children to plant 75,000 trees in their own school grounds.
